The Blackeyed Pea
At Fuqua & I-45

I have good and bad things to say about this place.

The good - the people are friendly
The bad - they run out of food, amenities, don't get orders right, and
forget stuff.

I can not recall any other Blackeye Pea running out of the soup of the
day or even some of the main courses or ketchup? A-1 sauce? Have you
ever heard of such a thing before?

Or how about it taking THREE TIMES for the people in the kitchen to get
an order correct? Three times? Do you realize just how much money this
place must be losing by not getting the orders right?

Ever since last October this restaurant has been plagued with waiters
who are just so-so, cold food coming out of the kitchen, wrong orders,
items on the menu not being available, and not having things like
Ketchup, mustard, and the like.

It is bad enough that prices keep going up and portions keep going down
but to not even have the menu items available is complete rubbish. I
told my wife I didn't want to go there anymore after the third week and
them mucking everything up.

What this place needs is to hire someone to come in and teach their
staff how to do things. Like serving plates of food. You don't put
your finger into the mashed potatoes. You don't lean over the table to
give the person on the other side of the table their food. You don't
lean over the table to refill glasses. You don't just dump the food and
run off to the next table. There is a certain etiquette to serving food
and this restaurant does not know it. Just like Super Nanny teaches
parents HOW to be good parents - this Blackeyed Pea needs a Super Waiter
to come in and teach the staff how to wait on tables.

And for God's sake - why do all of the waiters have to be in the kitchen
at the same time? We'd go for fifteen minutes or more with no one. Not
one single waiter. In the dinning room. Know what Chef Ramsey would say
about this? There would be about ten minutes of bleeps and then he'd
tell them to get out.

My recommendation is - avoid this place. There are many Blackeyed Peas
in Houston and all of the other ones I've gone to know how to wait on
tables. Go there first.

Well, things have gotten better at the Blackeyed Pea at Fuqua & I-45 south.
The food tasted better and service was better. Not REALLY better - just
better. The waitress got the order right but did it as a TO-GO for unknown
reasons. No iced tea was on the table when I sat down and it took a while
to get it. What can I say? Everything was so-so and we paid a lot but
didn't get really good service.

I will try them again in a month or two.

The Blackeyed Pea on Bellaire Blvd. has excellent service and the waitstaff
is friendly. As usual, the food is "comfort" best.
