We had Sunday brunch at The Union Kitchen, Kingwood location, and the
food was good and not-so-good.

http://www.theunionkitchen.com/foodmenu.html

One person did not care for his cheeseburger, and I wondered, how you
you get a cheeseburger wrong? One had Eggs Benedict and the egg was
overcooked. One person had breakfast tacos and he was pleased. I had
chicken & a biscuit with cream gravy. The chicken, as it turned out, was
2, flat chicken strips that were fried and put on a biscuit-half and
covered with cream gravy, and it was topped with a fried egg, which the
description of the dish, did not include. The unhappy cheeseburger
eater, ate my egg, so it worked out okay.

Service was excellent, they had, it seemed like 6 people waiting on us,
the waiters seemed to be ever present, on the verge of being annoying.

The tab, including tip, was $80 for 4 people, no cocktails. For that
price, the food was not good enough to go back.

Perhaps you should try the Bellaire location? I would say that going to a
sitdown restaurant with linen napkins for less than $15.50 (before tax) per
individual and 20% gratuity is a pretty damn good deal. Personally, if
service is "excellent", as you said, a additional tip (~25%) is what I
generally leave.

Try one at The Egg & I, and you'll see every way they can get it
wrong. Preformed frozen patties, the burger was nuked, and the bacon
cheeseburger had no bacon...

They are in Houston? I thought they specialized in breakfast only, BTW...

There are half a dozen or so in Houston. They "do" lunch too.
Soups, salads, sandwiches. Someone else chose. I didn't like them for
breakfast years ago, and their lunch was worse.

Interesting. Google confirms your statement. I am surprised, but I am pretty
much an "inside The Loop" (I-610) kind of person.

My first encounter with them was in Loveland, CO a couple of weeks ago. Had
a pretty damn good breakfast there. Sorry for your bad experience, maybe
it's the altitude, LOL!

Emma, I been to both the original Bellaire location and the one on Memorial
Drive. The one in Bellaire I went to for Sunday Brunch and was completely
blown away. It immediately went into my top-5 list. Last year I went to the
Memorial Drive location and was equally thrilled. That location was more
romantic, dark, and cozy, the other one was open and airy. I can only guess
you had a bad day, or a holiday where staff didn't show, or some other
problem. I love the place. Now granted, I have not been to the Kingwood
location, and maybe the owner (Paul something or another) isn't aware of
things there. But if you really don't like the place drive into the Memorial
location ... it's just south of City Center. That's the one I go to and it
works for me.

Will try them at least one more time, it is hard to judge a restaurant
on just one visit. Thanks for your comments.
